14-year-old stabbed to death in mass brawl at Bronx playground

A tragic incident unfolded in a Bronx playground as a 14-year-old boy lost his life in a mass brawl that also left a 17-year-old with serious stab wounds. The chaos erupted at Williamsbridge Oval Playground in Norwood, leading to a devastating outcome.

Angel Mendoza was discovered with multiple stab wounds when law enforcement responded to the scene shortly after 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Despite efforts to save him, the young teen succumbed to his injuries after being rushed to Jacobi Medical Center.

Another teenager, aged 17, was also a victim of the violent altercation, sustaining stab wounds to his shoulder and abdomen. He was transported to Montefiore Medical Center by private means and is currently in stable condition.

The aftermath of the brawl painted a grim picture, with large blood stains visible on the ground where a group of teenagers had gathered. The police investigation at the scene included the recovery of several knives, indicating the severity of the incident.

Witnesses recalled a group of individuals on bikes causing disturbances near the basketball area just moments before the brawl erupted. The sudden escalation of violence in what was typically considered a safe environment left residents shocked and dismayed.

The Williamsbridge Oval, which underwent a $10 million renovation in 2021, has unfortunately been the site of previous violent incidents. In the past year alone, a 14-year-old boy was attacked, an 18-year-old man was fatally shot nearby, and a 66-year-old man was stabbed to death within the park premises.

As the community grapples with the tragic loss of a young life, the authorities continue their efforts to bring those responsible to justice. The senseless violence that unfolded in the Bronx serves as a stark reminder of the importance of maintaining safety and security in public spaces.
