Healthcare Firm Reveals Major Cybersecurity Breach Exposing Data of 145,000 Americans
A healthcare firm recently made a startling announcement regarding a significant cybersecurity incident that has potentially compromised the personal identifying and health data of tens of thousands of individuals in the United States.
According to a recent report from the Office of the Maine Attorney General, Central Maine Healthcare fell victim to an internal system breach on March 19, 2025, affecting a staggering 145,000 American patients.
The company disclosed that an unauthorized entity managed to infiltrate their systems and exfiltrate files containing sensitive information such as patient names, Social Security numbers, addresses, treatment records, dates of service, provider names, and health insurance details.
“On November 6, 2025, we concluded our investigation into an incident that potentially led to unauthorized access to certain patient information. The initial detection of the breach occurred on June 1, 2025, when abnormal activity was observed within our IT network. Immediate measures were taken to secure our systems, and a comprehensive investigation was launched with law enforcement notification.
Through our thorough investigation, it was determined that an unauthorized third party gained entry to our IT network between March 19 and June 1, 2025, accessing and acquiring specific files from Central Maine Healthcare’s IT infrastructure.”
Central Maine Healthcare operates a network of hospitals, clinics, and physician practices, offering various medical services ranging from emergency and trauma care to primary care, maternity, and pediatric services.
The company promptly informed affected individuals about the breach and extended complimentary credit monitoring services for a year. Additionally, Central Maine Healthcare has implemented advanced monitoring and alert systems to prevent future incidents of a similar nature.
