An 18-Year-Old Loyola University Student Fatally Shot Near Campus

Tragedy struck Loyola University in Chicago as an 18-year-old student, Sheridan Gorman, was shot and killed while walking with her friends near Tobey Prinz Beach Park, less than a mile from the university’s Lake Shore campus. The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. on Thursday when an unknown male approached the group and opened fire, resulting in Gorman being shot in the head and succumbing to her injuries at the scene. Fortunately, no other injuries were reported.

Loyola University president, Mark Reed, expressed deep sadness over the loss of Sheridan Gorman, offering condolences to her family, loved ones, and the entire community affected by this tragedy. The university is providing counseling services and cooperating with law enforcement in the investigation.

Despite the shocking incident, Reed reassured the campus community that there is no ongoing threat to their safety. Gorman was not only a student at Loyola University but also a beloved member of her former high school in Westchester County, New York, where Superintendent Ron Hattar described her as a “shining light” who touched the lives of many.

The tragic and senseless loss of Sheridan Gorman has left both the Loyola University and Yorktown Central School communities devastated, mourning the loss of a bright and promising young individual.
