18-year-old runs for mayor in Alabama, says he is ‘ready to take on challenge’

At just 18 years old, Brandon Moss made headlines when he announced his bid for mayor of Fairfield, Alabama, shortly after graduating from high school. This move makes him the youngest mayoral candidate in the history of Fairfield, a city with a population of around 9,500 people.
Moss, a native of Fairfield, expressed his love for the city and his belief in its potential for a better future. With a keen interest in politics and a desire to make a difference, Moss decided to run for mayor to address the needs of the community, particularly in the areas of business development and improving overall quality of life.
Drawing inspiration from Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin and former President Barack Obama, Moss aims to bring a fresh perspective and innovative ideas to the mayoral office. He acknowledges the work of past administrations but believes it’s time for a new approach to address the current challenges facing Fairfield.
Having participated in various political programs and served on advisory boards, Moss has gained valuable experience that he plans to leverage in his mayoral campaign. His platform includes initiatives to improve the city’s finances, support small businesses, and address issues such as blight by securing federal grants for community development.
Despite his young age, Moss is prepared to balance his mayoral duties with his upcoming college education at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. With a team of mentors and supporters backing him, Moss is confident in his ability to lead Fairfield towards a brighter future.
In the upcoming mayoral election on Aug. 26, Moss faces competition from other candidates, including Councilman Herman Carnes, Councilman Cedric Norman, James Reasor, and Michael Williams. Regardless of the election outcome, Moss remains committed to making a positive impact in his community, whether through elected office or other avenues of public service.
