2-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova announces she will retire in September
LONDON — Two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova announces retirement plans
Czech tennis star Petra Kvitova revealed on Thursday that she intends to retire from professional tennis in a few months. The announcement came shortly after she was granted a wild card entry for the upcoming Wimbledon tournament.
In a statement shared on social media, Kvitova expressed her excitement about returning to Wimbledon, a place that holds special memories for her career. She also hinted at concluding her playing days at the US Open later this summer.
The 35-year-old, who reached a career-high ranking of No. 2, has had a successful career that includes winning two Wimbledon titles and contributing to the Czech Republic’s Fed Cup victories.
Kvitova took a break from tennis in 2023 and became a mother during last year’s Wimbledon tournament. She made her comeback earlier this year in Austin, Texas, and is currently ranked 572nd in the world.
With Wimbledon set to begin on June 30, fans will have the opportunity to witness Kvitova in action one last time at the prestigious tournament.
