2 Venezuelan military aircraft flew near US Navy vessel in ‘highly provocative move,’ Pentagon says

The recent incident involving two Venezuelan military aircraft flying near a U.S. Navy vessel in international waters has sparked tensions between the two nations. The Pentagon labeled this move as “highly provocative” and stated that it was a deliberate attempt to disrupt U.S. counter narco-terror operations.

According to reports, two armed Venezuelan F-16 fighters flew over the USS Jason Dunham in what U.S. officials interpreted as a show of force. This comes on the heels of President Donald Trump’s announcement that he had authorized a military strike on a vessel in the Caribbean Sea carrying suspected drug smugglers from the Tren de Aragua cartel, resulting in the deaths of 11 individuals.

In response to these escalating events, the Pentagon issued a stern warning to the Venezuelan government, cautioning them against further interference with U.S. military operations. The statement emphasized that any attempts to obstruct or deter counter-narcotics and counter-terror efforts would not be tolerated.

As a show of strength and determination, the Navy has recently deployed eight ships to the Caribbean and Pacific Ocean to reinforce its presence and capabilities in the region. This move aims to signal to adversaries that the U.S. is committed to combating illegal activities and safeguarding its interests at sea.

The incident underscores the growing tensions between the U.S. and Venezuela, as both countries assert their authority and strategic interests in the region. The situation remains fluid, and further developments are expected as both sides navigate this delicate diplomatic and military standoff.
