25-time felon gets 10 years for burglarizing Northwest Side homes

25-Time Convicted Felon Sentenced to 10 Years for Residential Burglaries
A 25-time convicted felon, Vincente Charriez Colon, aged 62, was sentenced to 10 years in prison on Wednesday for a series of residential burglaries on Chicago’s Northwest Side. This sentencing comes while he was on parole for 19 armed robberies dating back to 1991.
Charriez pleaded guilty to all three counts and received concurrent six-year sentences for two counts, along with a consecutive four-year sentence for the third count. The case was presided over by Judge Michael Hood.
After serving decades in prison for the armed robberies, Charriez was paroled in August 2022. Prior to those convictions, he had served two six-year sentences for residential burglary in 1985.
Prosecutors stated that Charriez resumed his criminal activities by burglarizing a woman’s home in the 3600 block of North Kedzie on July 26, 2023. The stolen items included two safes containing business licenses, $10,000 in cash, birth certificates, house and car titles, jewelry, and a pistol, as per the criminal complaint filed against him.
Subsequently, Charriez allegedly broke into another woman’s home in the 4100 block of North Kolmar, stealing a laptop bag. He then targeted a woman’s home in the 2800 block of North Rutherford on October 3, 2023, taking her purse.
If Charriez behaves well in prison, he is expected to serve only five years of the 10-year sentence imposed by Judge Hood. Additionally, he will benefit from a reduction in time served thanks to 582 days of credit earned while wearing an ankle monitor during the legal proceedings.
