Tragedy Strikes in Florida as Catamaran Flips Over, Claiming Three Lives

Three individuals met a tragic end on Saturday when the catamaran they were on capsized, throwing them into the Caloosahatchee River along Florida’s Gulf Coast, authorities reported.

The incident occurred at approximately 4 p.m. local time near the Cape Coral Yacht Club, situated between Cape Coral and Fort Myers, as revealed by the Lee County Marine Emergency Response Team.

Four individuals were onboard the catamaran when it overturned, according to officials.

Following a search conducted by state, local, and federal agencies, three victims were retrieved from the river on Saturday. Tragically, two of them succumbed to their injuries, while the third victim remained in critical condition in a hospital as of Sunday.

On the following day, a fourth victim, a 60-year-old who had been missing since the accident, was discovered deceased and recovered from the river after an extensive search led by the U.S. Coast Guard, as confirmed by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

The identities of the three individuals who lost their lives have not been disclosed at this time.

The circumstances surrounding the boating mishap are currently under investigation by the Coast Guard.
