Three Police Officers Shot in Rochester, New York

On Friday night, three police officers in Rochester, New York, were shot “without warning at close range” while responding to a domestic call at a home, according to authorities. The incident occurred when emergency services received a call from a man reporting that his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend was trying to break into her home and may have had a gun. The caller mentioned that he had a legal permit for a firearm and was armed with a pistol.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers located the suspect, identified as the ex-boyfriend, alongside the house. The suspect then pulled out a handgun and fired multiple shots at the officers and the victim, injuring two officers. Police Chief David Smith stated in a press conference that there was an exchange of gunfire between the suspect and the caller, resulting in the caller being shot multiple times.

After fleeing the scene, the suspect was quickly found by another officer and engaged in gunfire, leading to the officer being shot as well. The suspect was eventually shot and killed by the officers on the scene.

One officer sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body and is in stable condition, while another officer was shot in the upper body and is currently in critical but stable condition after undergoing surgery. A third officer also suffered serious injuries but is now in stable condition. The man who called the police was shot multiple times and is in serious but non-life-threatening condition.
