Chicago Police Investigate Series of Armed Robberies in River North
Chicago police are currently investigating a string of armed robberies that occurred in the River North neighborhood early Saturday morning. The incidents included a harrowing kidnapping where the victim was forced to withdraw cash from multiple ATMs.
The first reported incident took place around 2 a.m. near Maple and Dearborn streets. The victim was lured into a vehicle by two men who brandished a gun. They then drove the victim to several convenience stores, coercing him to withdraw cash from ATMs before releasing him in River North. The suspects, described as Black males, also took the victim’s phone.
Approximately thirty minutes later, at 2:30 a.m., another man was robbed in the 400 block of North Clark Street. Witnesses observed a group of four or five men exiting two vehicles, attacking the victim, and fleeing towards Kinzie Street. Although officers located the victim, he opted not to file a formal report.
The most violent incident of the night occurred at 3:15 a.m. on West Huron Street, where a group of five men, one of whom was armed, assaulted and robbed a victim before escaping in a stolen black Jeep. The suspects, all Black males wearing masks except for one individual with dreadlocks and no mask, fled onto the expressway.
As dawn approached, another man fell victim to a robbery at 6 a.m. near Inner Lake Shore Drive and Chicago Avenue, losing his phone and wallet. Northwestern University Police provided assistance until CPD arrived on the scene.
