4 shot, 2 fatally, in 7-hour, broad-daylight stretch of violence in the Bronx: cops

In a tragic turn of events, four men were shot – two of them fatally – during a violent seven-hour stretch in broad daylight in the Bronx on Tuesday. The first incident occurred around 8:10 a.m. when a 32-year-old man was shot in the back outside an apartment building on Anthony Avenue near Mount Hope Place. Despite being rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital, he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.

The motive behind this deadly shooting remains unclear, but surveillance footage released by the NYPD showed the suspect, who is still at large, pacing around in the lobby with his hood pulled up over his head before disappearing from view. Described as approximately 50 years old with a dark complexion and medium build, he was last seen wearing a black hoodie, black pants, and blue sneakers.

The violence continued later in the day around 1:10 p.m. outside a public housing building on Croes Avenue near Seward Avenue. A 34-year-old man was shot once in the chest and was pronounced dead at Jacobi Medical Center. Two male suspects fled the scene on foot, with one wearing a black or gray hoodie, black pants, and black Jordan sneakers, while the other wore a gray hoodie, black pants, and a gray and red backpack with a shark mouth graphic.

The third shooting occurred at around 2:35 p.m. at East Tremont and Bryant avenues, where a 31-year-old man was shot in the ankle. He was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Two male perpetrators fled the scene, with one wearing all black.

An hour later, at approximately 3:30 p.m., a 26-year-old man was shot multiple times in the leg on Adams Place near East 182nd Street. He was also taken to St. Barnabas Hospital and listed in stable condition. The suspect, last seen wearing a green hoodie and gray sweatpants, fled the scene.

The motives behind these shootings are still under investigation, but they follow a violent weekend in the Bronx that included a shooting battle in Haffen Park that left a 17-year-old girl critically injured and a 32-year-old man dead. Two young men and two teen boys are facing murder charges in that case.

Despite these recent incidents, the latest NYPD statistics show a decline in both murders and shootings in the Bronx compared to the same period last year. As of Sunday, there have been 67 murders reported in the Bronx, a 15 percent decrease from the previous year. Additionally, there have been 178 shootings with 215 victims reported, down from 220 incidents with 281 victims last year.

The Bronx community continues to grapple with the aftermath of these senseless acts of violence, as law enforcement works tirelessly to bring those responsible to justice and ensure the safety of its residents.
