4th of July travelers face potential storm-related delays

The upcoming Fourth of July holiday is expected to bring travel disruptions for many Americans, as a cold front moving across the country is forecasted to bring storms to the eastern half of the US. This could potentially result in a washout for the Southeast on Independence Day.

AAA has predicted a record-breaking 72.2 million Americans will be traveling for the holiday, with many taking advantage of the three-day weekend created by July Fourth falling on a Friday this year.

The FOX Forecast Center is closely monitoring the weather ahead of the cold front. Travel disruptions are expected early in the week from the Ohio Valley to the Southeast, with the possibility of stronger thunderstorms affecting major cities such as Tampa, Cleveland, and Pittsburgh.

As the cold front progresses, stormy conditions are expected to extend to the Northeast flight hubs by Tuesday, impacting cities along the Interstate 95 corridor including New York, Boston, and Washington. Thunderstorms could cause travel delays in these regions.

By Wednesday, the Northeast, Midwest, and northern Plains are expected to dry out, while storm chances persist in the Southeast. Coastal areas from the Carolinas to Georgia may experience stormy conditions, with increased thunderstorm activity in Florida due to tropical moisture.

The National Hurricane Center is monitoring an area off the Southeast coast for possible development later in the week, potentially bringing tropical downpours to Florida over the holiday weekend.

On the Fourth of July itself, stormy conditions are expected to linger in the Southeast, especially in Florida. The Southwest may also experience storm chances due to monsoon moisture and tropical influences in the Four Corners region.

In contrast, the West Coast, Ohio Valley, mid-Atlantic, and Northeast are expected to have the best weather for Fourth of July celebrations. Cities like Columbus, St. Louis, and Chicago are forecasted to have favorable conditions for Independence Day festivities.

Overall, travelers should stay informed about weather updates and be prepared for potential travel disruptions during the holiday week. Stay safe and enjoy the Fourth of July celebrations responsibly.
