5 shot, 1 fatally, in gunfight at outdoor gathering in Virginia, say police

The city of Danville, Virginia, was rocked by a tragic incident early Sunday morning when a gunfight broke out at a large outdoor gathering, resulting in at least five people being shot, one of whom was fatally wounded. The violent altercation took place around 1:30 a.m. on private property near the North Carolina border, according to a statement released by the Danville Police Department.

Law enforcement officials were alerted to the situation after receiving multiple reports of gunfire in the area. Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered a 22-year-old man named Jay’Shaun Tiejae White from Hurt, Virginia, sitting in a Chrysler sedan with a gunshot wound to his upper body. Sadly, White was pronounced dead at the scene.

Another individual who was believed to have been driving the Chrysler at the time of the shooting was found on a nearby street also suffering from a gunshot wound. He was rushed to SOVAH Health hospital in Danville for medical treatment, although his current condition has not been disclosed.

Additionally, three more victims, including two adult men and a 19-year-old woman, arrived at SOVAH Health in private vehicles to seek treatment for their gunshot wounds. As of Sunday afternoon, the three male victims remained hospitalized in stable condition.

According to the preliminary investigation conducted by the Danville Police Department, the shooting incident stemmed from an exchange of gunfire between individuals associated with the Chrysler and other attendees at the outdoor gathering. Despite ongoing efforts to apprehend those responsible, no arrests have been made at this time. Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward and assist in the investigation.

The residents of Danville are left reeling from the senseless loss of life and the injuries sustained by multiple individuals.
