Deadly Listeria Outbreak Linked to Prepared Pasta Meals

A listeria outbreak tied to prepared pasta meals sold at major grocery chains including Kroger and Trader Joe’s has resulted in six deaths and 27 illnesses across 18 states, according to health officials. The latest data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) shows an increase in deaths and illnesses related to the outbreak, with 25 hospitalizations reported.

The outbreak has been linked to contaminated pre-cooked pasta meals sold by a supplier named Nate’s Fine Foods, which has issued recalls for the affected products. The company is cooperating with the FDA and CDC in the investigation of the source of the outbreak.

The CDC advises consumers to check their refrigerators and discard any recalled food items. Listeria can be especially dangerous for pregnant women, individuals over 65, and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms include headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, convulsions, fever, muscle aches, and tiredness.
