8 killed as passenger bus crashes in wet conditions in southern Turkey
A tragic accident occurred in Antalya province, southern Turkey, on Sunday when a passenger bus veered off the road, resulting in the loss of eight lives, according to a senior official.
Images broadcasted on state-owned TRT depicted the overturned bus on an embankment along a highway slip road in Dosemealti, a district northwest of Antalya city center.
Governor Hulusi Sahin confirmed that 26 individuals sustained injuries, with some in critical condition. The DHA news agency revealed that several passengers were ejected from the bus, which had journeyed overnight from Tekirdag in Turkey’s northwest.
Antalya, renowned for its tourism appeal on the Mediterranean coast, has experienced heavy rainfall in recent days. Governor Sahin noted, “The ground was slippery due to the rain, and fog obscured visibility in the area. Driving at high speeds was not advisable, yet it appears the bus was exceeding the speed limit.”
