A pair of LPGA veterans are at the top of the South Korea leaderboard after the 1st round

After the first round of the BMW Ladies Championship, two seasoned veterans on the LPGA Tour, Sei Young Kim and Lindy Duncan, showcased their skills and experience to take the lead. Kim, at 32 years old, shot an impressive 10-under 62 with eight birdies and an eagle, securing the top spot on the leaderboard at Pine Beach Golf Links. In between Kim and Duncan was Hyo Joo Kim, who carded a solid 63 to stay in contention. Sei Young Kim, with 12 career LPGA victories under her belt, has established herself as a force to be reckoned with since joining the tour in 2015, a year after Duncan made her debut. The difference in their experience and success was evident on the leaderboard.

Kim extended her lead with a birdie on the par-3 15th hole, buoyed by the support of her family, cousins, and fans who turned out to cheer her on at a course near her hometown. The atmosphere and familiar surroundings seemed to fuel Kim’s performance, propelling her to the top of the standings.

Other notable performances in the first round included Rio Takeda shooting a 65 to tie for fourth place, Canadian Brooke Henderson posting a 67, and American Lucy Li, who aced the par-3 13th hole to win a car, finishing with a 68. Li’s hole-in-one and the excitement it generated added to the thrill of the tournament.

Defending champion Hannah Green started strong with consecutive birdies but struggled to maintain momentum, finishing with a 68 alongside compatriot Minjee Lee. Green’s victory at the same event last year marked her third win of the 2024 season, a significant achievement for the Australian golfer.

Looking ahead, the tournament in South Korea is the first of two consecutive events in the country, with the International Crown team event set to take place next week. The competition promises to bring together top players from around the world in a unique team format, adding an extra layer of excitement to the tour.
