A year later, no charges in $12M Hyde Park Jewelers heist

Denver Jewelry Heist Remains Unsolved One Year Later

It has been a year since a group of sophisticated criminals executed one of the biggest jewelry heists in Denver’s history, yet no one has been charged and only one suspect has been arrested.

The parent company of Hyde Park Jewelers continues to remain silent on the incident, while the Denver Police Department refuses to release any reports, photos, or videos related to the burglary due to an ongoing investigation.

With no arrests or charges made, there is a possibility that three out of the four alleged burglars, who are said to have ties to South America, have successfully evaded capture.

The heist took place on July 21, 2024, when four individuals disguised as construction workers entered the Cherry Creek Shopping Center in a Ford F-150 truck. They proceeded to break into Hyde Park Jewelers, spending eight hours looting the store of $20 million worth of high-end jewelry.

Despite triggering an alarm halfway through the burglary, the suspects managed to escape unnoticed. It wasn’t until an employee arrived for work the next morning that the break-in was discovered.

Following the heist, the burglars fled to California, where one of them, Gustavo Ignacio Salas Ortega, was eventually tracked down in New York. Salas Ortega has been charged with conspiracy to receive stolen property in connection to another jewelry store robbery in New Jersey.

While Salas Ortega’s involvement in the Denver robbery has been hinted at through evidence found on his phone, he has not yet been charged in connection to that crime.

Despite the challenges in apprehending the suspects, law enforcement agencies remain committed to solving the case and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
