Abbie Cornish, Dougray Scott to Star in Thriller ‘The Invisible’
Abbie Cornish and Dougray Scott are all set to star in the upcoming Southern African action thriller series “The Invisible.” The show, which is based on Deon Meyer’s novel “Blood Safari,” will be produced by M-Net, ITV Studios, Scene23, and Berkeley Media Group. It will consist of eight episodes and will be distributed internationally by ITV Studios.
The story is set in the area surrounding South Africa’s Kruger National Park, where a mysterious killer begins targeting local poachers. Inspector Jack Phatudi, played by Dougray Scott, is tasked with unraveling the identity of the vigilante behind the killings. At the same time, Abbie Cornish’s character, Emma, hires a former bodyguard named Dekker to help her search for her missing brother, who disappeared two decades ago.
As Phatudi’s investigation collides with Emma and Dekker’s mission, they uncover a complex conspiracy that dates back to the political assassination of an African leader. The trio must confront the explosive truth, which could potentially rewrite history and put their lives in danger.
Directed by Jozua Malherbe and Amy Jephta, and created by Deon Meyer, “The Invisible” promises to be a gripping and intense series. Meyer, Cornish, and Scott serve as executive producers, with William Josef Schneider leading the writing team. Tina Kruger is the creative executive producer on the project.
The show’s creators are excited about the production and are confident that it will captivate audiences both in South Africa and globally. Nomsa Philiso from MultiChoice expressed her pride in the collaboration between M-Net, ITV Studios, Scene23, and BMG, while Julie Meldal-Johnsen of ITV Studios highlighted the thrill of bringing a South African-produced drama to international viewers.
Berkeley Media Group’s Yu-Fai Suen emphasized their commitment to showcasing African stories on a global platform, with Scene23’s Cobus van den Berg also expressing excitement about the series. Following the success of previous South African productions like “Trackers” and “Heart of the Hunter,” “The Invisible” is poised to continue the trend of showcasing the country’s talent and storytelling on an international stage.
Overall, “The Invisible” promises to be a must-watch series that combines thrilling action with a compelling narrative, making it a standout addition to the world of television entertainment.
