ABC News Station in Sacramento Struck by Gunfire

Shots Fired at Sacramento ABC Affiliate Following Jimmy Kimmel Protest

On Friday, three shots were fired into a window at the ABC affiliate in Sacramento, just a day after a protest was held outside the station regarding Jimmy Kimmel’s suspension.

The police are currently investigating the incident, but have no suspect information and are unsure whether the shooting was a random act or if the station was targeted, according to a police spokesperson.

The shots were fired around 1:30 p.m. at the station headquarters located at 400 Broadway. Fortunately, the building was occupied at the time, but thankfully, no one was hurt in the incident.

“Responding officers observed at least three gunshots into a window of the building,” the police stated in a released statement. “Our detectives are currently on the scene processing the area and conducting follow-up investigations.”

Approximately 15 protesters demonstrated outside the station on Thursday, as reported by the Sacramento Bee. The affiliate, ABC10 (KXTV), is owned by Tegna, which is currently in the process of being acquired by Nexstar.

Molly McMahon, a Tegna spokesperson, confirmed the incident, stating, “We can confirm that shots were fired into our station at KXTV earlier today. While details are still limited, all of our employees are safe and unharmed. We are fully cooperating with law enforcement and have taken additional measures to ensure the continued safety of our employees.”

ABC10 covered the protest at its offices on Thursday, noting that it is not owned by ABC. The protesters were objecting to ABC’s decision to pull “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”, citing it as an infringement on free speech.

The show has been off the air since Wednesday, following FCC Chairman Brendan Carr’s threat to take action against local stations due to Kimmel’s remarks on Charlie Kirk’s killer. Kimmel had mentioned in his monologue that the “MAGA gang” was trying to distance itself from the suspect, implying that the killer was associated with the right. This sparked strong reactions from conservatives who presented evidence and statements showing that the suspect actually held leftist ideologies.

In addition to the protest in Sacramento, Kimmel fans have also demonstrated in New York and at the El Capitan Theater in Los Angeles, where the show is typically taped.

It is important to note that the safety of all individuals involved is of utmost importance, and authorities are diligently working to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting incident at the Sacramento ABC affiliate.
