Accused psycho surgeon Michael McKee nabbed at fast food chain after allegedly killing ex-wife, dentist husband
Accused killer surgeon Michael McKee was apprehended at a Chick-fil-A near his medical practice in Rockford, Illinois, by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives for the alleged murder of his ex-wife, Monique Tepe, and her new husband in their Ohio home. McKee, 39, was taken into custody on January 10, more than a week after the double slayings.
The vascular surgeon, who worked at OSF Saint Anthony, traveled approximately 325 miles to Columbus, Ohio, where he allegedly shot Monique and Spencer Tepe on December 30. Police were able to link McKee to the crime after tracing his car to the scene of the killings.
Columbus police have described the murders as a targeted domestic violence incident and have recovered the gun believed to have been used in the shootings. Monique and McKee were married for two years before their divorce in 2017. Although court records indicated an amicable split, Monique’s family has accused McKee of emotional abuse during their marriage.
Monique later married Spencer Tepe, a local dentist, in December 2020. The couple had no children together. McKee allegedly used a silencer to sneak into the Tepe’s home and fatally shoot them in their bedroom, leaving their young children unharmed in another room. The motive behind the killings remains unknown.
McKee, who holds medical licenses in Illinois and California, faces charges of aggravated murder and aggravated burglary. He is currently in custody in Rockford, awaiting extradition to Ohio for trial. The tragic incident has left the community shocked and mourning the loss of Monique and Spencer Tepe.
