Adam Scott Says Losing Six Feet Under Role Almost Made Him Quit Acting

Adam Scott, known for his roles in popular TV shows like “Parks and Recreation” and “Big Little Lies,” recently revealed on Amy Poehler’s “Good Hang” podcast that he almost left Hollywood forever. The reason behind this near-departure was losing the role of David Fisher on HBO’s acclaimed series “Six Feet Under” to Michael C. Hall.

In the podcast, Scott admitted that he almost gave up acting for good after missing out on the opportunity to play David Fisher. Reflecting on the experience, he mentioned that Hall was perfect for the role and that he wasn’t ready at that time. Despite the disappointment, Scott acknowledged that it was a valuable learning experience for him.

During the conversation, Poehler asked Scott how close he was to getting the part, to which he replied that both he and Hall had tested for the role. The realization that he had lost the chance to be part of what he described as “the show of the early 2000s” was particularly painful for Scott. However, he managed to land a guest spot on the show in Season 2 as the boyfriend of David Fisher’s brother, which he described as a fun experience.

Although missing out on the role was a setback, Scott emphasized the importance of such experiences in his career. He credited Hall for his outstanding portrayal of David Fisher, which earned him an Emmy nomination for best lead actor in a drama series in 2002. Despite the initial disappointment, Scott acknowledged that it was important to have such setbacks to grow as an actor.

In the end, Scott expressed gratitude for the learning experience and the opportunity to work with Hall on “Six Feet Under.” He also shared that the experience ultimately shaped his career and helped him grow as an actor. The podcast episode gives fans a glimpse into Scott’s journey in Hollywood and the challenges he faced along the way.
