Adams, Tisch and the NYPD have crime headed firmly down — but Mamdani would send it back up

New York City has seen a significant decrease in shootings this year, thanks to the efforts of the NYPD, Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch, and Mayor Eric Adams. Under Mayor Bill de Blasio, shooting victims reached over 1,000 in the first seven months of 2021 due to budget cuts and a lack of support for the police force. However, with Adams’ pro-police policies and Tisch’s leadership, the number of shooting victims has more than halved, reaching the lowest level on record.

Total shooting incidents have also decreased significantly, along with overall crime rates in the city. While Adams took some time to solidify his public safety team, bringing in Tisch has proven to be a game-changer in reducing crime rates. The implementation of quality-of-life cops in Brooklyn, Manhattan, and The Bronx has been effective in addressing the daily concerns of New Yorkers, with plans to expand to Queens and Staten Island.

The initiative has not only lowered emergency response times but has also tackled issues like abandoned vehicles, homeless encampments, and open drug use on city streets. However, the progress made could be at risk if Zohran Mamdani wins in November. Mamdani, known for his anti-cop rhetoric, plans to implement policies that are even more extreme than de Blasio’s, such as reducing the police force and disbanding elite task forces.

Mamdani’s alignment with cop-bashers and his Democratic Socialist ideology pose a threat to the progress made in reducing crime and improving public safety. His disregard for the efforts of law enforcement could reverse the positive trend seen in the city. It is crucial for New Yorkers to consider the implications of electing a candidate who does not prioritize public safety and the well-being of the community. The future of crime prevention in New York City hinges on the decisions made in the upcoming elections.
