AFI Awards: The Best Celebrity Photos

The American Film Institute’s AFI Awards on Friday once again proved to be a star-studded event, with celebrities like George Clooney, Emma Stone, Gwyneth Paltrow, Ethan Hawke, Wunmi Mosaku, and Rhea Seehorn gracing the red carpet luncheon at the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills. The guest list was packed with A-listers, including Laura Dern, Adam Sandler, Mark Ruffalo, Stellan Skarsgård, Jafar Panahi, Adam Scott, Netflix’s Ted Sarandos, and Apple’s Tim Cook.

This year’s film honorees included a diverse range of titles such as “Avatar: Fire and Ash,” Bugonia,” “Frankenstein,” “Hamnet,” “Jay Kelly,” “Marty Supreme,” “One Battle After Another,” “Sinners,” “Train Dreams,” and “Wicked: For Good.” On the television side, honorees included “Adolescence,” “Andor,” “Death by Lightning,” “The Diplomat,” “The Lowdown,” “The Pitt,” “Pluribus,” “Severance,” “The Studio,” and “Task.” A special award was also given to “It Was Just an Accident.”

Shortly after the honorees were announced in December, Variety’s Clayton Davis highlighted the significance of the AFI Awards, stating, “The AFI Awards remain one of the season’s most meaningful bellwethers. Over the past decade, AFI’s top 10 films have consistently overlapped with the Academy’s best picture slate, typically matching seven or eight eventual nominees. While an AFI selection doesn’t guarantee Oscar momentum, a miss often signals a steeper hill ahead.”

The juries for this year’s awards, one for film and one for television, included industry professionals like Lily Gladstone, Lauren LeFranc, Patton Oswalt, Thomas Schlamme, Mark Harris, Leonard Maltin, along with representatives from top universities like Syracuse University, USC, UCLA, and UC Santa Cruz. The panels were chaired by AFI Board of Trustees members Jeanine Basinger and Richard Frank, bringing together a diverse group of experts and critics to select the honorees.

The AFI Awards ceremony was a glamorous affair, with photos capturing the excitement and celebration of the honorees. The event once again solidified its reputation as a key player in the awards season, recognizing outstanding achievements in both film and television.
