Air Force veteran found dead inside mail machine got engaged just 10 days earlier: ‘We’re living a nightmare’

Air Force Veteran Found Dead in Postal Service Mail Handling Machine

Nicholas Acker, a 36-year-old Air Force veteran, was tragically found dead inside a postal service mail handling machine at the USPS Detroit Network Distribution Center in Allen Park, Michigan on Nov. 8. Acker had only been engaged for 10 days to his fiancée, Stephanie Jaszcz, who is now demanding answers about the mysterious circumstances surrounding his death.

It is believed that Acker had been deceased for several hours before being discovered, with Jaszcz being the first to raise the alarm when he didn’t return home. His family is still waiting for information about how he got stuck in the machine and why it took so long to find his body.

Authorities were alerted to the situation after Jaszcz went to the facility when Acker failed to come home. It was then realized that he had never punched out of his shift, prompting a search of the mailing facility where he was eventually found.

While police are treating the death as an accident, investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances. Jaszcz is desperate to know how and why her fiancé ended up in the machine.

Acker, who had spent nine years in the Air Force, had been working at the Allen Park facility as a mechanic for about a year. He had recently proposed to Jaszcz, with plans to marry in the spring. The grieving fiancée had been looking forward to starting wedding dress shopping this month, only to have her entire future shattered by Acker’s untimely death.

Described as a kind and generous person, Acker touched the lives of those around him with his thoughtfulness and warmth. USPS issued a statement expressing their sadness over the loss and offering condolences to his family.
