Alex Honnold to Climb Taipei 101 Skyscraper Live on Netflix in 2026

Rock climbing sensation Alex Honnold is gearing up for his next death-defying challenge, and this time it’s taking place on the iconic Taipei 101 skyscraper in Taiwan. The 101-story building stands at a staggering 1,667 feet, making it the 11th tallest building in the world and the tallest in Taiwan. Honnold’s attempt to free solo climb this massive structure will be captured in a 2-hour live special called “Skyscraper Live,” set to air on Netflix in early 2026.

Brandon Riegg, the VP of nonfiction series and sports at Netflix, is hyping up the event as a must-watch global spectacle. The streaming giant is no stranger to live events, having previously aired thrilling matchups like Paul vs. Tyson and Canelo vs. Crawford. With Honnold’s incredible feat set to unfold live on screen, viewers can expect an adrenaline-pumping experience that will have everyone talking.

The production of “Skyscraper Live” is in the hands of Plimsoll Prods. Limited, a part of ITV Studios known for their work on nature and adventure documentaries. This isn’t the first time they’ve teamed up with Honnold, having previously documented his climbs in series like “The Devil’s Climb” and “Arctic Ascent With Alex Honnold.” With a team of experienced producers and directors on board, including Al Berman and Joe DeMaio, the special is shaping up to be a captivating watch.

In a recent practice climb of the Taipei 101, Honnold wowed onlookers with his exceptional climbing skills and fearless approach. The daring ascent turned downtown Taipei into an impromptu amphitheater as crowds gathered to witness this unprecedented climbing feat. With rigorous safety protocols in place and Honnold’s charm captivating building occupants along the way, the practice climb was a taste of what’s to come in the live special.

Honnold’s reputation as one of the world’s most renowned climbers precedes him, thanks to the award-winning documentary “Free Solo” that captured his climb of El Capitan’s “Freerider” route in Yosemite National Park. His impressive free solo climbs of iconic locations like Zion’s Moonlight Buttress and Yosemite’s Half Dome have solidified his status as a climbing legend. Beyond his climbing endeavors, Honnold is also an author, podcast co-host, and founder of the nonprofit Honnold Foundation.

As Honnold prepares to take on the Taipei 101 live on Netflix, fans of adrenaline-fueled adventures and breathtaking feats of athleticism won’t want to miss this historic event. Stay tuned for “Skyscraper Live” early next year, where Alex Honnold will once again push the boundaries of what’s possible in the world of rock climbing.
