Alex Honnold’s ‘Skyscraper Live’ Hits 6.2 Million Views on Netflix
“Skyscraper Live,” the exhilarating stream capturing Alex Honnold’s daring free solo climb of the iconic Taipei 101 tower in Taiwan, has taken Netflix by storm, garnering a staggering 6.2 million views. Originally scheduled to air on Friday, Jan. 23, the climb was postponed to the following night due to adverse weather conditions. This meant that the stream only had a 24-hour window – from Saturday night to Sunday night – to captivate audiences and secure a spot on the Netflix English language TV Top 10 for Jan. 19-25, where it claimed the impressive No. 3 position.
In a post-climb interview with Variety, Honnold revealed that the climb itself or the weather conditions did not faze him. “Climbing is always at the mercy of nature,” he explained. “My whole climbing life is always dictated by the weather, by nature. And so yesterday didn’t feel that different. The only reason that it was at all stressful is because it’s supposed to be a live broadcast.”
The top two spots on the English language TV chart were held by “His & Hers” and “Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials,” with 17.2 million and 8.7 million views respectively. Joining the ranks of the Top 10 were shows like “Finding Her Edge” at No. 4 with 5.5 million views, and Bert Kreischer’s comedy series “Free Bert” debuting at No. 8 with 3.2 million views.
Meanwhile, on the English language film chart, “The Rip” starring Ben Affleck and Matt Damon maintained its reign at No. 1, pulling in 40.4 million views in its second week. Noteworthy additions to the film chart included James Bond classics “No Time to Die” and “Spectre” at No. 3 and No. 7 respectively, following the availability of the Bond film library on Netflix from Jan. 15.
The Netflix Top 10 for Jan. 19-25 featured a diverse array of English-language shows and movies, showcasing the platform’s wide-ranging appeal. From heart-pounding climbs to riveting dramas, Netflix continues to deliver compelling content that captivates audiences worldwide.
