Alex Morgan, Sabrina Ionescu, Magic Johnson Join NWSL Advisory Board

The National Women’s Soccer League has recently formed an advisory board consisting of a star-studded lineup of investors from various NWSL teams. This initiative, led by NWSL commissioner Jessica Berman, aims to drive new business opportunities and expand the league’s overall reach in the United States.

The panel members of this advisory board include well-known figures such as Chris Paul and Julie Foudy from Angel City FC, Brandi Chastain and Sabrina Ionescu from Bay FC, Elizabeth Banks and Aly Raisman from Boston Legacy FC, and many others representing different NWSL teams.

Berman expressed her excitement about the extraordinary group of cultural icons, athletes, and leaders who have invested in the league. She believes that their experience and influence will play a crucial role in building a movement that redefines entertainment and sports possibilities.

The NWSL, founded in 2012 and kicking off its first season in 2013, has seen significant growth in recent years. With the wave of investment, increased attendance, and TV viewership gains in women’s sports, Berman hopes that the collective power of key NWSL investors will drive business development and other benefits for the league.

The plan is to hold biannual meetings with team owners, staff, and players to address common issues and share information. The league has partnered with Boardroom, headed by NBA’s Kevin Durant and Rich Kleiman, to organize the inaugural summit next spring.

The NWSL is counting on the star power and influence of its board members to break barriers and pave the way for women’s sports. Prominent male athletes on the board, such as Eli Manning and Grant Hill, send a strong message to corporate America and Madison Avenue about the league’s potential.

Alex Morgan, an Olympic gold medalist and retired professional soccer player who invested in the San Diego Wave FC, expressed her pride in being part of shaping the future of the league. She emphasized the importance of this Advisory Board in driving the growth and potential of women’s soccer as a sport and a movement.

The presence of key figures like Morgan, Sabrina Ionescu, and Magic Johnson on the board highlights the diverse expertise and perspectives that will contribute to the NWSL’s continued success and impact.

With the support of the advisory board, the NWSL is set to embark on a new chapter of growth and empowerment for women in sports.
