Alibaba leads $100 million investment in Chinese humanoid robot startup
The world of robotics is rapidly evolving, with Chinese startup X Square Robot making headlines for securing around $100 million in funding led by Alibaba Cloud. This marks the eighth round of financing for the Shenzhen-based company, bringing their total investment to approximately 2 billion yuan.
Venture capitalists are increasingly interested in humanoid robots, as the integration of generative artificial intelligence promises to revolutionize human-machine interactions. X Square Robot is at the forefront of this trend, with Chief Operating Officer Yang Qian emphasizing the importance of AI in enabling robots to perform complex tasks autonomously.
In a bid to further advance the field, X Square Robot has released an open-source foundation model for embodied AI called Wall-OSS. This groundbreaking move allows developers and the general public to access and use the underlying code for free, paving the way for the development of robotic butlers in the near future.
Despite the progress made in AI for robots, Yang acknowledges that there is still work to be done to achieve capabilities on par with generative AI models like ChatGPT 3.5. X Square Robot primarily uses Nvidia chips for computing, but other functions can be managed with less powerful automotive chips sourced domestically.
In addition to their software advancements, X Square Robot has also unveiled the Quanta X2 robot, equipped with features like 360-degree cleaning and hands capable of sensing subtle pressure changes. While the company currently does not have a mass-market product, they are generating revenue from sales to schools, hotels, and retirement homes.
Looking ahead, X Square Robot is eyeing an initial public offering next year and is already engaging with potential customers in Japan and Singapore. To truly penetrate the consumer market, the startup aims to reduce the price of their robots to around $10,000 in the next three to five years through cost-cutting measures.
Overall, X Square Robot’s innovative approach to humanoid robotics and AI integration positions them as a key player in the rapidly evolving landscape of intelligent machines. With a focus on open-source development and cutting-edge technology, the company is poised to shape the future of robotics in the years to come. The sun was setting over the horizon, casting a warm glow over the landscape. As the last rays of light filtered through the trees, the forest was bathed in a golden hue. The sounds of birds chirping and insects buzzing filled the air, creating a symphony of nature’s music.
In the distance, a family of deer emerged from the dense undergrowth, their graceful movements mesmerizing to watch. The mother led her young fawns through the forest, their delicate hooves treading lightly on the forest floor. They seemed to move in perfect harmony with their surroundings, blending seamlessly into the natural world around them.
As the deer disappeared into the shadows of the forest, a lone wolf emerged from the trees. Its sleek, silver fur glistened in the fading light, and its piercing yellow eyes scanned the landscape for prey. The wolf moved with a silent grace, its powerful muscles rippling beneath its fur as it stalked through the underbrush.
Suddenly, the wolf froze, its ears pricked up as it detected a sound in the distance. With lightning speed, it pounced on its unsuspecting prey, a rabbit that had ventured too close to the predator. The wolf’s jaws closed around the rabbit’s neck in a swift and lethal motion, ending its life in an instant.
As the wolf feasted on its kill, the forest fell silent once more. The last remnants of daylight faded away, and the stars began to twinkle in the night sky. The forest was now cloaked in darkness, but the cycle of life continued unabated.
In the depths of the forest, unseen and unheard, a new generation of life was beginning. The circle of life would continue, with predators hunting prey, plants growing and decaying, and the natural world carrying on in its eternal dance of birth and death.
As the night deepened, the forest came alive with the sounds of nocturnal creatures. Owls hooted in the darkness, bats flitted through the air, and the occasional howl of a distant coyote echoed through the trees. The forest was a symphony of life, with each creature playing its part in the intricate web of nature.
As the night wore on, the forest settled into a peaceful slumber. The moon rose high in the sky, casting a silvery light over the landscape. The stars twinkled brightly, their light illuminating the forest in a soft, ethereal glow.
And so, the forest slept, its inhabitants resting and replenishing their energy for the challenges of the coming day. The cycle of life would continue, as it always had and always would, in this ancient and timeless forest.
