All CSK overseas players except one to return for IPL 2025 resumption
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) CEO Kasi Viswanathan has confirmed that all of their overseas players except for Jamie Overton will be available for the team’s remaining matches in IPL 2025. The tournament is all set to resume on Saturday, May 17, after a brief hiatus.
Jamie Overton, the bowling all-rounder, is the only foreign player from Chennai’s squad who won’t be returning to India to rejoin the team. He has been selected for England’s home ODI and T20I series against West Indies, starting on May 29, and will miss CSK’s last two league games due to his national commitments.
Providing an update on the availability of Chennai’s overseas players, Viswanathan informed PTI, “All CSK foreign players, except Jamie Overton, are expected to join the squad ahead of the IPL resumption.”
Chennai, led by MS Dhoni, has already been knocked out of the playoffs race. With just three wins from 12 games, they find themselves at the bottom of the points table. Their next match is against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Tuesday, May 20. Subsequently, Chennai will face Gujarat Titans (GT) in their final league match at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on May 25.
In a recent interview, Kasi Viswanathan was asked about the potential IPL retirement of MS Dhoni after the 2025 edition. The CSK CEO revealed that Dhoni has not yet informed the team management about his future plans. Viswanathan said, “It’s his call, we will never tell him anything. If he takes a decision, he will inform us. He hasn’t told us anything.”
Dhoni had stepped down as Chennai’s captain before the start of IPL 2024, passing on the leadership to Ruturaj Gaikwad. However, Gaikwad’s injury led to Dhoni reassuming the captaincy for the remainder of the 2025 season.
