Alleged Charlie Kirk assassin Tyler Robinson negotiated ‘gentle’ surrender, was afraid of being shot: sheriff
The recent developments in the case of alleged Charlie Kirk assassin Tyler Robinson have shed light on how he was apprehended by law enforcement. Washington County Sheriff Nate Brooksby revealed during a news conference that he received a call from a former law enforcement colleague who identified Robinson as the shooter.
Robinson, a 22-year-old with reported suicidal thoughts, was convinced by his parents not to harm himself. He was aware of the intense police search for him and feared a SWAT raid on his home. Sheriff Brooksby mentioned that Robinson knew he would eventually be caught due to the pressure from law enforcement, media coverage, and the evidence against him.
The crucial call informing the sheriff about Robinson’s whereabouts came in at 8:02 p.m. on Thursday. The caller, a friend of Brooksby, disclosed that Robinson was in Washington County and efforts were being made to persuade him to surrender voluntarily. Robinson’s family played a significant role in convincing him to turn himself in peacefully, avoiding any violent confrontation with the authorities.
Upon surrender, Robinson requested a “peaceful, gentle” arrest, which the sheriff agreed to. He was described as quiet and somber during the apprehension. While in custody, Robinson was not interrogated by Brooksby’s office, awaiting the arrival of lead investigators.
Regarding Robinson’s family and his roommate and lover, Lance Twiggs, Sheriff Brooksby emphasized the need for them to lay low for an extended period without providing further details. Twiggs, who is currently in a safe location far from St. George, is being contacted by law enforcement officials from other agencies for more information.
It was clarified by Sheriff Brooksby that there is a Washington County Sheriff’s deputy with the last name Robinson who is unrelated to the shooter, dispelling any confusion or harassment directed towards the innocent individual. Robinson’s lover, who is transgender, resided with him for about a year, as revealed by a relative in an interview with Fox News Digital.
The relative shared insights into Robinson’s mindset, indicating a deep-seated hatred towards conservatives and Christians. They mentioned a radicalization process over the years, leading to increased anger and detachment from their upbringing. Robinson now faces serious charges including aggravated murder, obstruction of justice, witness tampering, and felony discharge of a firearm causing bodily injury.
The tragic incident occurred during Charlie Kirk’s American Comeback tour event at Utah Valley University, where Robinson allegedly climbed onto the roof and fatally shot Kirk in the neck. Kirk, a prominent conservative figure known for fostering dialogue with university students, was pronounced dead shortly after the attack.
The details surrounding Robinson’s apprehension and the ongoing investigation into the case continue to unfold as authorities work to bring justice for the senseless act of violence that claimed Charlie Kirk’s life.
