Alleged trespasser at Memphis mayor’s home charged with attempted kidnapping

A man has been arrested and charged with attempted kidnapping and stalking after allegedly trespassing at the home of Memphis Mayor Paul Young in Tennessee. The suspect, identified as 25-year-old Trenton Abston, was apprehended by police following “suspicious activity” in the mayor’s neighborhood.

According to reports, the suspect was found to have a Taser, gloves, rope, and duct tape in his vehicle at the time of his arrest. Mayor Young revealed that the man had jumped a wall leading into their subdivision and proceeded to knock on their door with gloves on and a nervous demeanor. Surveillance footage confirmed that the individual went straight to the mayor’s residence without approaching any other homes in the neighborhood.

Abston has been charged with attempted kidnapping, stalking, and aggravated criminal trespass. He is currently detained at the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office jail and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday. It is unclear if he has legal representation at this time.

The Memphis Police Department commended the quick response of its officers and the surveillance footage for swiftly identifying, locating, and apprehending the suspect. In a press release, the department reassured the public of its commitment to the safety of all residents, including elected officials, and vowed to take any potential threats seriously.
