Alleged wheelman for brazen armed crew who snatched $116K in rare Pokémon cards from NYC shop is busted: feds
A recent heist at a Pokémon card shop in the Meatpacking District has left the community shocked and authorities scrambling to catch the culprits. The daring robbery, which took place at Poké Court, saw a group of thieves make off with over $116,000 worth of rare Pokémon cards.
The alleged mastermind behind the operation, Julio Caseres Colina, 27, was arrested on federal charges for his role as the getaway driver for the brazen crew. Caseres dropped off the other members of the group near the store before they smashed display cases and grabbed the valuable trading cards. The robbery took place while the store was filled with around 40 people attending a decorating event.
Some of the stolen cards featured popular characters such as Treecko, Charizard, Pikachu, and Ho-Oh. The thieves also managed to steal $1,000 from the store’s register during the heist. Caseres had reportedly scoped out the location with the crew the day before the robbery and waited for them to complete the theft before driving them away from the scene.
This was not the first time Caseres had been involved in such criminal activities. He had previously served as the driver for the same crew during a robbery at a shop in Queens where they stole Pokémon merchandise and cash. After that heist, one of the suspects gave Caseres money for gas and other items that he sold for profit.
Despite his claims of innocence and ignorance about the nature of the robberies, Caseres was charged with Hobbs Act robbery conspiracy and aiding and abetting Hobbs Act robbery. With no prior arrests on his record, his involvement in the Pokémon card thefts has come as a surprise to many.
As of now, no other arrests have been made in connection with the robbery. The staff at Poké Court have expressed their gratitude for the outpouring of support they received from people around the world following the incident. They assured everyone that no physical harm was done during the robbery and that the safety of their staff and customers was their top priority.
The Pokémon card heist at Poké Court has left a lasting impact on the community and serves as a reminder of the lengths some individuals will go to for valuable collectibles. Authorities are continuing their investigation to apprehend all those involved in the robbery and ensure justice is served.
