American Music Awards Ratings: Highest Viewership Since 2019

The American Music Awards made a triumphant return to live television on Monday night, airing on CBS for the first time since 2022. Hosted by Jennifer Lopez, the 2025 edition of the AMAs drew in an impressive 4.73 million viewers, marking a 34% increase from the last live broadcast in 2022 on ABC.
Billie Eilish stole the show, taking home awards in all seven categories she was nominated in, including Artist of the Year, Album of the Year for “Hit Me Hard and Soft,” Favorite Touring Artist, Favorite Female Pop Artist, Favorite Pop Album for “Hit Me Hard and Soft,” Song of the Year, and Favorite Pop Song for “Birds of a Feather.”
CBS secured the rights to broadcast the AMAs in May 2024, along with the Golden Globes. The network previously aired a special “American Music Awards 50th Anniversary Special” in October. Variety’s parent company PMC co-owns Dick Clark Productions with Eldridge.
The AMAs on CBS proved to be a ratings success, ranking as the number one broadcast of the night. The show also saw growth in key demographics compared to the 2022 broadcast, with an 84% increase in adults 18-34, 19% in adults 18-49, and 13% in adults 25-54.
On social media, the AMAs generated a massive 9.2 billion potential impressions and 816.6k mentions. CBS’s social accounts accumulated over 100 million video views within the first 24 hours across platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook. Additionally, the AMAs Twitch live broadcast peaked at 205.5k viewers during YouTube Star Kai Cenat’s appearance, as reported by TwitchTracker.
