While the exact number of past winners affected by this change is unclear, court documents from the bankruptcy filing showed that there were significant unsecured claims from prize winners. Some winners have already reported not receiving their expected payouts, leading to financial difficulties.
PCH has a long history dating back to 1953 when it was founded as a direct-to-consumer mail order business. Over the years, it has evolved into a well-known sweepstakes company, famous for its Prize Patrol surprises and oversized checks.
Despite its popularity, PCH has faced financial challenges in recent years, prompting the shift to a digital advertising model. The company has also dealt with regulatory issues related to consumer perceptions of purchasing products to improve their chances of winning.
