The stepbrother of Anna Kepner, who was tragically found asphyxiated during a family cruise vacation, was arrested this week and appeared in a Florida courthouse to face a judge.
According to a law enforcement source, the 16-year-old stepbrother was brought into a Miami federal courtroom for a sealed appearance. It remains unclear whether he has been charged in a federal complaint or indictment.
Following his court appearance, the stepbrother was released to the custody of a guardian, as reported by ABC News.
On November 7, Kepner’s lifeless body was discovered inside the cabin she shared with her stepbrother on the Carnival Horizon. It was determined that she was asphyxiated after being put in a chokehold.
Shortly after her tragic passing, reports emerged suggesting that Anna’s stepbrother had exhibited concerning behavior towards her. Steven Westin, the father of Anna’s ex-boyfriend, disclosed to a media outlet that the stepbrother had once climbed onto Anna’s bed in a disturbing incident.
Efforts to obtain further information from federal authorities are ongoing, with no updates available at this time.
