Annie Awards Winners: ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ Leads
The 53rd Annie Awards celebrated the best in animation, with “KPop Demon Hunters” leading the pack with 10 wins, including best feature, character animation, direction, and production design. The event took place at UCLA’s Royce Hall in Los Angeles, honoring the outstanding achievements in the animation industry.
Director Ugo Bienvenu’s “Arco” took home the award for best independent feature, while Adult Swim’s “Common Side Effects” and Netflix’s “Love, Death + Robots” dominated the television categories with four and three wins respectively. “Common Side Effects” was recognized for best editorial, best writing, best mature TV/media, and best direction, while “Love, Death + Robots” secured wins for best character design, best production design, and best storyboarding.
In addition to the competitive awards, special juried awards were also presented. The Winsor McCay Award was given to Michaël Dudok de Wit, Christopher Miller, Phil Lord, and Chris Sanders, while the June Foray Award went to Sandy Rabins. The Ub Iwerks Award for technical advancement affecting the animation industry was presented to Wacom, and the Special Achievement Award was given to LightBox Expo. The ASIFA-Hollywood Merit Award was presented to Jeffrey New and Haley Mirren Douthit.
