Apple TV French Series ‘The Hunt’ Investigated, Plagiarism Allegations

Apple TV’s highly anticipated French thriller “The Hunt” (“Traqués”) has been unexpectedly pulled from its December release schedule, leaving fans wondering what happened. The reason behind this decision has finally come to light: creator and director Cédric Anger has been accused of plagiarizing the story of the series from the 1973 novel “Shoot” by Douglas Fairbairn, which was previously adapted into the 1974 film “The Hunt.”

According to a report by Apple Insider, French media expert Clement Garin first brought these allegations to light. In response to these claims, French producer Gaumont has issued a statement confirming that “The Hunt” has been put on hold while they conduct a thorough investigation into the accusations. Gaumont emphasized that they take intellectual property matters very seriously and are committed to resolving any issues related to the production.

Originally scheduled to premiere globally on Apple TV on December 3rd, “The Hunt” was set to release the first two episodes followed by weekly episodes every Wednesday through December 31st. However, the show was removed from the lineup last week due to the plagiarism allegations.

“The Hunt,” a French-language thriller helmed by Cédric Anger, features an ensemble cast led by Benoît Magimel and Mélanie Laurent. Executive produced by Isabelle Degeorges, Clémentine Vaudaux, Alexis Barqueiro, and Sidonie Dumas for Gaumont, the series promises a gripping narrative that explores the consequences of a fateful hunting trip gone wrong.

The logline for “The Hunt” sets the stage for a tense and suspenseful storyline: Franck and his friends, avid hunters, find themselves being targeted by a mysterious group during one of their outings. As they struggle to unravel the motives behind the attack, they soon realize that they are being hunted by a vengeful adversary. With danger lurking around every corner, Franck and his friends must navigate a treacherous game of survival while trying to keep their darkest secrets hidden.

As fans eagerly await further updates on the fate of “The Hunt,” it remains to be seen how Gaumont and Apple TV will address the plagiarism allegations and the future of the series. Stay tuned for more developments on this intriguing and controversial story.
