AR-15 allegedly found under Florida college student’s bed after he ordered 1,500 rounds of ammo to dorm

A college student in Florida, Constantine Demetriades, was arrested after allegedly ordering 1,500 rounds of ammunition to his dorm room at Rollins College in Winter Park. Security at the college flagged the massive online ammo order, leading to his arrest. When police arrived at his dorm room, they discovered a semi-automatic rifle, an AR-15, stashed under his bed along with six magazines, tactical gear, knives, and other items.

Despite Florida’s laws allowing open carry, Rollins College has a strict weapons ban on campus. Demetriades, a senior at the liberal arts college, admitted to knowing the school’s policy but claimed he brought the rifle to campus after purchasing and registering it in New Jersey during Thanksgiving break. He stated that he enjoys shooting as a hobby and usually keeps the firearm at a friend’s house off campus. However, he was unaware that his New Jersey concealed carry permit was not valid in Florida.

Demetriades was charged with possession of a weapon on school property and is currently barred from the campus pending further investigation by the college. The institution released a statement confirming the violation of their weapons policy and their immediate initiation of an investigation upon receiving the report. The student has cooperated with college officials and law enforcement during the investigation process.

The incident has raised concerns about campus safety and the enforcement of weapons policies at educational institutions. It serves as a reminder of the importance of adhering to school regulations and the potential consequences of violating such policies. The college is taking appropriate measures to address the situation and ensure the safety and well-being of its students and staff.
