Ashlee Buzzard pleads not guilty in court to murdering 9-year-old daughter Melodee
Ashlee Buzzard, a deranged mom from California, appeared in court on Friday to plead not guilty to the murder of her own daughter, Melodee. The courtroom was filled with cries of anger and wailing as Buzzard, wearing a floral white blouse, entered the plea through her attorney. The gallery was shocked and emotional, with some women who had started a social media campaign to find Melodee breaking down in tears.
The judge had to ask for quiet before proceeding with the hearing. Melodee’s uncle, Marvin Meza, expressed his disbelief at Buzzard’s plea, calling her actions despicable. Prosecutors announced that they would not seek the death penalty for Buzzard but would instead pursue a life sentence if she is found guilty of first-degree murder.
Melodee’s paternal grandmother, Lily Denes, spoke outside the court, questioning how a mother could commit such a heinous act against her own child. Melodee’s father had passed away in a motorcycle accident years before her tragic death.
Buzzard was arrested for Melodee’s murder after the young girl was reported missing in October. Her decomposed remains were found in Utah in December, with forensics determining that she had been shot in the head around October while on a road trip with her mother. Buzzard had used disguises, rented a car, and changed license plates during the trip to cover up the crime.
Despite Buzzard’s uncooperativeness with law enforcement during the initial investigation, no clear motive for the murder has been established. Melodee’s aunt, Lizabeth Meza, described Buzzard as mentally unstable and claimed that the family had not seen Melodee in years due to Buzzard’s restrictions.
Sisters Khristiana and Kandice Valrie, who had started a Facebook page to find Melodee, expressed their outrage at Buzzard’s plea. They are determined to seek justice for Melodee and see Buzzard behind bars for life. Buzzard will remain in custody until her trial.
The tragic story of Melodee’s senseless murder has shocked the community and raised questions about the mental state of her mother, Ashlee Buzzard. The pursuit of justice for Melodee continues as the legal proceedings unfold in the California court.
