At least 100 people killed by gunmen in north-central Nigeria, rights group says

ABUJA, Nigeria — Reports from Amnesty International Nigeria indicate that over 100 individuals lost their lives in a recent gun attack on a village in Benue state, located in the north-central region of Nigeria.
The attack occurred overnight in Yelewata, a community in the Guma area, leaving dozens missing and hundreds injured without proper medical attention.
Amnesty International described the horrific scene where families were trapped and burnt alive in their homes, with many bodies unidentifiable due to burns.
Social media posts shared graphic images of the aftermath, showing charred remains and destroyed houses.
While the responsible party for the attack remains unknown, clashes between local herders and farmers over land and resources are common in this region.
Farmers accuse Fulani herders of encroaching on their land, while herders argue that they have grazing rights dating back to 1965.
This incident follows previous attacks in the area, highlighting the ongoing tensions and violence in the region.
Benue State Governor has dispatched a team to provide support to the affected families in Yelewata.
