At least 11 killed in mass shooting at South African bar
PRETORIA, South Africa — Tragedy struck in a township near Pretoria as 11 people, including three children, lost their lives in a horrific mass shooting at an unlicensed bar. Another 14 individuals were wounded and rushed to the hospital with gunshot wounds, as reported by the South African Police Services.
The incident took place in the early hours of Saturday at the Saulsville township. Among the victims were a 3-year-old boy, a 12-year-old boy, and a 16-year-old girl. Authorities are currently on the lookout for three suspects in connection to the shooting.
South Africa, known for having one of the highest homicide rates globally, recorded over 26,000 homicides in 2024, averaging more than 70 deaths per day. The tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing violence plaguing the nation.
