At least 21 killed, 100 injured after high-speed train collision in Spain: Officials

At least 21 individuals lost their lives and more than 100 others sustained injuries in a tragic incident where two high-speed trains collided in southern Spain on Sunday. The collision took place when a train traveling from Málaga to Madrid derailed near Adamuz and veered onto the adjacent track, striking another train en route from Madrid to Huelva.

According to Spanish Interior Minister, rescue operations are currently underway with 75 individuals hospitalized, 15 in critical condition, and five in life-threatening condition. Additionally, 170 individuals suffered minor injuries as a result of the collision. All train services between Madrid and the Andalusia region have been suspended as rescue teams work tirelessly to assist those affected by the accident.

The cause of the train derailment is still under investigation, with no official statement released yet. Iryo, the company operating the train that initially derailed, expressed deep regret for the incident and has activated all emergency protocols in collaboration with relevant authorities to manage the situation effectively. The company disclosed that there were 300 passengers onboard the train at the time of the collision.
