At least 30 injured after car plows into crowd outside music venue in Los Angeles

At least 30 individuals were left injured following a harrowing incident in East Hollywood, Los Angeles, where a car plowed through a crowd outside the music venue The Vermont in the early hours of Saturday. The chaotic scene unfolded near the intersection of Santa Monica Boulevard and Vermont Avenue at approximately 2:00 a.m. local time.

According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, seven people are currently in critical condition, six are in serious condition, and over a dozen individuals received on-site medical treatment. A total of 23 patients were transported for further care.

The driver of the vehicle involved in the crash was reportedly shot by an unidentified male after the collision. The driver’s condition remains unknown, while the shooter is currently at large.

Law enforcement officials indicated that the tragic incident transpired after an individual was ejected from a nearby establishment. Subsequently, the individual allegedly drove a vehicle into the crowd gathered outside The Vermont. Following the vehicle’s disablement, bystanders from the crowd pulled the driver out and engaged in a physical altercation, culminating in the driver being shot by the unidentified male assailant.

The motive behind the crash is still under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department. The suspect who fired the shot fled the scene on foot, heading westbound from Vermont Avenue. Descriptions provided by LAPD characterize the suspect as a Hispanic male, approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighing 180 pounds, bald, wearing a blue jersey, and potentially armed with a silver revolver.

A significant response effort was mounted, with 124 fire personnel on-site to provide assistance and support to those affected by the tragic events. The crowd outside the music venue comprised clubgoers, valet attendants, and vendors from a nearby taco stand, as per the fire department.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass expressed her profound sorrow over the incident, describing it as a “heartbreaking tragedy.” She commended the swift response of over 100 LAFD and LAPD personnel who worked tirelessly to mitigate the impact and save lives. Mayor Bass assured the community that a thorough investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
