Aubrey Plaza and Amy Poehler Tease Netflix Hit
“Saturday Night Live” Spoofs “The Hunting Wives,” Announces Second Season
“Saturday Night Live” recently parodied the popular Netflix series “The Hunting Wives” and announced a second season for the hit show. Host Amy Poehler and guest Aubrey Plaza took on the streaming sensation in a taped segment, poking fun at both the show and the cultural response to it.
The sketch humorously referred to “The Hunting Wives” as a “straight but lesbian horny Republican murder drama,” setting the stage for a hypothetical second season. Poehler, spoofing Malin Akerman’s character, playfully drops her top and exclaims, “Look what the cat dragged in,” as the parody unfolds.
While “SNL” showed affection for “The Hunting Wives,” it also added a touch of critique. The narrator pointed out the wigs that seemed out of place, particularly as Poehler’s hairpiece shifted during a love scene with Fineman. A tense moment where characters draw guns on each other was highlighted for its sharp execution.
Plaza, known for her role alongside Poehler in “Parks and Recreation,” joined the sketch as a newcomer to the hunting wives, hailing from California. As the hunting wives overly flirted with her, the tone shifted when they discovered her lesbian identity, leading to a poignant punchline in the final moments of the skit.
