Audra McDonald Calls Out Fan Who Followed Her Home From Broadway

Audra McDonald recently shared a scary encounter she had with an overeager fan who followed her home after a Broadway performance. The Tony-winning actress detailed the incident in a “PSA” video on Instagram, revealing that the fan had followed her from the Majestic Theatre to her place of residence, even entering the building and getting uncomfortably close. Despite seeking security assistance, the fan still insisted on an autograph, crossing a major boundary and compromising McDonald’s safety.

In her video, McDonald emphasized the importance of respecting actors’ boundaries and privacy, particularly after performances. While she sometimes greets fans at the stage door, she chose not to do so during her run in “Gypsy” to conserve energy for her demanding schedule. McDonald explained that there are various reasons why performers may choose not to engage with fans at the stage door, including exhaustion, anxiety, time constraints, and health concerns.

The actress urged fans to understand and respect these reasons, emphasizing that actors have the right to protect their space and peace. She encouraged fans to refrain from approaching actors who do not stop at the stage door, as there is likely a valid reason for their decision. McDonald concluded her message by reminding fans to respect proper boundaries and understand that actors have the right to prioritize their well-being.

McDonald recently wrapped up her acclaimed run in “Gypsy” on August 17 after more than 260 performances. The show, which opened in December 2024, showcased McDonald’s exceptional talent as Mama Rose and garnered praise from audiences and critics alike. As she moves on to new projects, McDonald’s message about respecting actors’ boundaries serves as a crucial reminder for fans and theatergoers everywhere.
