Bavaria Fiction Leads the Way in Green Production with EMAS Validation

German production house Bavaria Fiction has made history by becoming the first major film and series production company to achieve validation under the Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) and ISO 14001 Certification. This milestone solidifies Bavaria Fiction’s commitment to environmental sustainability.

Under the leadership of Tobias Wolf, senior sustainability manager, Bavaria Fiction has implemented a range of environmental protection measures to reduce its carbon footprint. These measures cover areas such as energy, water, business travel, vehicle fleet, resources, and waste management.

Since the implementation of the environmental management system, Bavaria Fiction has seen a 3% year-on-year reduction in total emissions at its Munich headquarters, from 381 to 369 tonnes of CO₂ equivalents. One of the key drivers of this reduction was the electrification of the company car fleet, resulting in a more than 13% decrease in emissions.

Looking ahead, Bavaria Fiction has set ambitious targets for further environmental improvements. These include a 4% reduction in energy and heat consumption, as well as a 5% decrease in business-travel-related CO₂ emissions by 2027.

Managing directors Marcus Ammon and Jan S. Kaiser expressed their pride in being validated by EMAS, highlighting the company’s commitment to environmental responsibility. They emphasized the importance of ongoing improvement and progress measurement through the environmental management system.

Tobias Wolf noted that sustainability has long been a priority for Bavaria Fiction, both on and off set. The EMAS validation represents a significant step towards a more holistic approach to sustainability, with clear goals, structured processes, and measurable progress.

Bavaria Fiction is actively involved in the “Green Shooting” working group in Germany, which sets ecological standards for green production in collaboration with industry stakeholders. Since the introduction of these standards in 2022, over 50 Bavaria Fiction productions have adhered to the guidelines.
