BBC COO Leigh Tavaziva Stepping Down
BBC Chief Operating Officer Leigh Tavaziva has announced her decision to step down from her position in an internal email to staff. This news comes amidst a series of high-level executive departures at the BBC, including director-general Tim Davie and news chief Deborah Turness who resigned in November.
Tavaziva joined the BBC board in February 2023 and has been with the organization for five years. In her resignation letter, she expressed gratitude for the opportunity to work at the BBC and highlighted the importance of the organization’s mission and purpose. She commended her colleagues for their hard work, expertise, and dedication, emphasizing the role of the COO Group in supporting the BBC’s strategy and operational excellence.
As she prepares to leave in September, Tavaziva stated that she will be working closely with Rhodri Talfan Davies, who will be taking over as Interim Director-General in April, to ensure a smooth transition. She acknowledged the uncertainty that the staff may be facing due to the changes and promised to keep them updated on developments and provide opportunities for feedback.
Variety’s sister publication Deadline was the first to report on Tavaziva’s departure. The BBC will be looking to fill the COO position in the coming months, and Tavaziva’s successor will be tasked with continuing the organization’s mission of delivering high-quality content and upholding its values.
This news marks a significant change in the leadership at the BBC, and Tavaziva’s departure will undoubtedly have an impact on the organization. As the BBC navigates this transition period, the focus will be on maintaining continuity and ensuring that the organization remains committed to its goals and objectives.
