Melanie Rumani, the esteemed global head of acquisitions for BBC Studios and UKTV, passed away on Tuesday after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 50.
Rumani joined BBC Studios in 2006 and held various roles in sales and acquisitions before being elevated to the position of global head of acquisitions for both BBC Studios and UKTV in 2020.
Tom Fussell, CEO of BBC Studios, praised Rumani’s invaluable contributions, describing her as fearless and tenacious in her approach to deal-making. Despite her illness, Rumani continued to work with determination and resilience, earning the admiration of her colleagues. During her time at BBC Studios, Rumani played a pivotal role in sourcing content for 40 pay TV channels and SVOD BBC-branded services globally. She was instrumental in launching new channels such as BBC Earth, BBC Brit, and BBC First in multiple territories. As the global head of acquisitions for both BBC Studios and UKTV, Rumani forged numerous global deals with various studios, leaving a lasting impact on the industry.
