Ben Affleck, Jennifer Garner’s daughter Violet advocates for mask mandates at UN event in NYC
Violet Affleck, the 19-year-old daughter of Hollywood stars Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner, recently delivered a powerful speech at the United Nations about the importance of mask mandates in preventing the surge of COVID-19. Dressed in a KN95 mask, Violet addressed world leaders at the “Healthy Indoor Air: A Global Call to Action” event held at the UN Headquarters in New York.
As a freshman at Yale University who had experienced a post-viral condition in 2019, Violet emphasized the need for continued vigilance in the face of the ongoing pandemic. She criticized the premature abandonment of mask mandates and the lack of awareness about the risks associated with airborne transmission and Long Covid.
Drawing attention to the impact of SARS-CoV-2 on indoor environments, Violet highlighted the potential long-term consequences of the virus on individuals, especially children. She cited research by Yale professor Dr. Akiko Iwasaki, pointing out the alarming rise of long COVID as a chronic illness in young children.
Expressing her concern for the future generation, Violet condemned the neglect of children’s health and urged world leaders to prioritize the use of technology to prevent airborne diseases. She emphasized the need for clean air infrastructure as a basic human right, likening it to the necessity of filtered water.
In addition to her UN speech, Violet has been actively advocating for mask mandates in hospitals and calling for investments in Personal Protective Equipment to prepare for future health crises. Her personal experience with post-viral conditions has fueled her passion for public health advocacy, as seen in her contributions to the Yale Global Health Review.
Violet, the eldest daughter of Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner, has emerged as a vocal advocate for health and safety measures in the face of the pandemic. Her impassioned plea at the United Nations serves as a reminder of the importance of collective action in safeguarding public health.
