Bill Clinton blasts Republicans for deposing Hillary, says ‘I did nothing wrong’
Former President Bill Clinton faced a historic closed-door deposition before the Republican-led House Oversight Committee on Friday, denying any knowledge of the crimes committed by convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. In his opening statement, Clinton emphasized that he had no recollection of the events due to the passage of time and repeatedly stated, “I do not recall.”
Addressing the photos that show him with Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell, Clinton maintained his innocence, stating, “I saw nothing, and I did nothing wrong.” This deposition marked a significant moment as it was the first time a former president had been compelled to testify before a congressional panel.
The committee’s investigation into Epstein in Chappaqua, New York, also involved questioning former Secretary of State and first lady Hillary Clinton. Bill Clinton criticized the committee for forcing his wife to testify, insisting that she had no connection to Epstein and should not have been involved.
Hillary Clinton, during her deposition, reiterated that she had no knowledge of Epstein, never encountered him, and never visited his properties. She previewed Bill Clinton’s testimony, suggesting that he would testify similarly.
Both Clintons have denied any wrongdoing in relation to Epstein’s crimes, and no allegations have been made against them. Bill Clinton emphasized in his statement that he had no idea of the crimes Epstein was committing.
The Clintons were subpoenaed to appear for a deposition in January but failed to comply. After the threat of a contempt resolution, they agreed to sit for a deposition. The committee is now hoping to investigate further ties between Epstein and President Donald Trump, who has denied any knowledge of Epstein’s crimes.
While the Clintons have agreed to speak with the committee behind closed doors, they have advocated for public hearings to ensure transparency. Bill Clinton emphasized the importance of a public hearing to allow the American people to see the truth for themselves.
Overall, the deposition shed light on the Clintons’ interactions with Epstein and Maxwell, showcasing their cooperation with the investigation while maintaining their innocence. The investigation continues to uncover more details about Epstein’s network and connections to prominent figures.
